Sheffield RUFC | South Yorkshire Trophy Winners 2026

For the 3rd year in succession, Sheffield RUFC 2nd team have won the South Yorkshire Cup Competition. In a hard-fought contest against Maltby 1st XV who never gave up and were until last night, unbeaten this season, the team dominated every aspect of the game to win 64-7.

The style of play will have brought a smile to the face of coach Ant Posa as it echoes the same style that the 1st team play and shows the hard work that has been put in all season in training.

This is hopefully the first of two competition wins in a couple of weeks for the 2’s who remain unbeaten in league and cup all year having only lost one game in a “friendly” to Tynedale all season.

It is a testament to the strength in depth in the club that the 2nd team have achieved this and with one more game to go in the league final the team are full of confidence that they can achieve the double that eluded them last season. It is also a huge testament to the club as a whole that 2 senior colts also made their debut last night and fitted into the side superbly.

Having had a lot of games cancelled this year it is a real boost to the squad to know that they will be part of the league structure next season and getting regular fixtures against decent opposition at hopefully the highest level of Yorkshire rugby.
