Rob Holland & John Watson will take charge of our Men’s Development Team
Sheffield RUFC is delighted to confirm Rob Holland and John Watson as our Men’s 2nd XV/Development Team Coaching & Management team.
Both have spent many years playing senior rugby at Sheffield and bring a strong understanding of the club, its players and the standards expected at Abbeydale.
Following last season’s unbeaten Yorkshire Merit Premiership campaign, the side will compete within the RFU league structure for the first time in 2026/27. Meaning all of our mens senior teams are now playing within the RFU league pyramid.
The Development Team will provide an important bridge between our Colts and senior rugby, giving former Colts, emerging players and already established squad members the opportunity to develop within a competitive league environment.
Director of Rugby Simon Tomlinson said:
“Rob and John are both long-serving senior players who understand the club and its values. Their experience and commitment make them the right people to lead our men’s second team/development side into this next chapter. With all of our senior men’s teams now competing within the RFU league pyramid, this is an important step for the club.
The development team will play a vital role in our long-term success, particularly in helping former Colts and the next generation of players make the successful transition into senior rugby here at Sheffield RUFC.”
