Sheffield Rugby Club - Since 1902

2nd and 3rd XVs Both in Action on Saturday

The 1st team may be on a break this weekend but both the 2s and 3s are back in action, so plenty of rugby to keep you entertained!

The 3s make the short journey to Stocksbridge, to take on their 2nd team. The team will be buoyed by a run of six successive wins, dating back to the start of September. Their previous three victories have been arguably their most impressive, with an aggregate total of 138 points scored across the fixtures. In this run, they have swept aside Mosborough 2s, Sheffield Oaks 2s and a strong Wath 3rd team!

They will be wary of this Stocksbridge side, however, having battled to a 21-12 friendly win over a Stocksbridge Development XV back in September. Sheffield will hope for more strong performances from key men, with the likes of Ben Broomhead and Steve Connelly expected to come to the fore once again.

One thing is certain, expect points in abundance and more importantly post-match revelry aplenty.

The 2nd XV have experienced a differing fortunes of late, with an impressive 61-0 win over Yarnbury sandwiched between two chastening defeats, away at Sheffield Tigers and at home to Harrogate.

Despite this difficult run, the 2nd team will be confident going into their clash with Driffield 2s, a team that have historically offered a successful fixture for the club at both 1st and 2nd team level, the 2s running out victorious at home last year.

The team will be lifted by the re-introduction of a number of players who have had experience of 1st team rugby this year including fly-half Ben Parker, back-row Joe Carrington and youthful winger Ed Topley.

Whatever the results, both these games promise to excite as Sheffield continue to name strong squads throughout the senior teams.

Whether you travel to Stocksbridge or seek out the home comforts of Abbeydale you are sure to be entertained!
